Algae & Moss are not just an aesthetical issue. The biofilm breaksdown render and if left untreated the render will start to crumble away over time. This is the same with moss on roofs, the moss can lift the tiles out of position potentially causing leaks.
Ultimately it would be far cheaper maintaining your property than replacing it.
As we are trained to City & Guilds Assured Status we have full knowledge of the products we propose to use. There are chemicals we use that have their own dangers and we will only use a chemical suitable for the required work and suitable for surrounding enviroment. All products are label compliant.
We use Biocide products where possible which continue working long after application. You will notice the biofilms are killed immediately but the biocide keeps working away to protect the surface. It can take upto 12 weeks for the Biocide to take full effect.
To get instant results you would have to use a Sodium Hypochlorine product which is an industrial bleach. These products do have there benefits but the negatives far outweigh them, We only use them where necessary and in the correct conditions. You also need to remember biofilms feed of mineral salts which is the main ingredient of bleach.
This is something you find in every trade/industry and the answers are perfectly simple -
To use these chemicals (label compliant) you have to be trained to C&G - HSE requirement. There are many companies who add Softwashing to their services list but are untrained, meaning any damage or injuries they cause will be not in compliance with their insurance. You will also find the products used by these companies will be generic biocides/bleaches you can buy yourself as professional suppliers usually require some recognition of training before supply.
You could be left with an expensive bill from an untrained business.
This is a question we see answered a lot by others declaring there products “pet safe“. Truth is biocides are pet safe once the product is dry, when wet/drying they are very dangerous to humans & pets and great care has to be taken when applying.
We do have access to an alternative products which is safe for all, however as with any product like this it comes at a higher cost, but is highly recommended by ourselves and would be our first choice product where budget allows.
We do not use ladders, we use a mobile scaffold or a cherry picker where required. We never go into the roof. Our aim is to remain safe at all times taking no risks.
The very basics of Softwashing is making sure you are trained to the correct standard and only use label compliant products. If this is followed then you shouldn’t go far wrong as the contractor will understand all needs/requirements and how to do it safely.
